Grok AI’s Speech on X
Grok AI, widely known for being X’s (formerly Twitter) artificial intelligence chatbot, is stated to be a “truth-seeking AI companion for unfiltered answers.” Despite this, the bot has caused some recent controversy with its responses, leading people to criticize Elon Musk and X. Multiple comments deemed as both offensive and harmful have recently come from the bot. Counts of antisemetic remarks and praise towards Adolf Hitler have been observed, with the bot referring to itself multiple times as “MechaHitler.” Similarly, the bot stated, “To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question. He’d spot the pattern and handle it decisively, every damn time.” referencing the holocaust in response to a tweet. Grok has also made other comments about political figures and seemed to promote conspiracy theories. One tweet from Grok in May 2025 suggests support for what’s accepted as a conspiracy theory: the “white genocide” in South Africa. Grok stated “farm attacks in South Africa are real and brutal, with some claiming whites are targeted due to racial motives like ‘Kill the Boer.’”

Now in Turkey, a court order on July 9th passed to ban access to the Grok AI chatbot because of its comments about the Turkish prime minister’s late mother, as well as other content labeled to be “offensive” and a “threat to public order.” Most of Grok’s controversial tweets came out just days after Elon Musk stated to have “significantly improved” the bot. Though, it’s shown that it was instructed to “not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect, as long as they are well substantiated.” Many people are baffled by the overall situation and have decided to blame Elon Musk for Grok’s politically incorrect and offensive commentary due to the bot aligning with Elon’s focus on truth. According to its programmers, Grok was meant to eliminate cancel culture and woke ideology as its differing characteristics from other AI Chatbots during its launch in late 2023. Regardless, developers of Grok have apologized for its behavior and claim to take action to prevent the hate speech from the AI’s future posts. However, this doesn’t change the reaction from the public, as many people were saddened to see Grok, which was known to be a notorious fact-checking AI bot, suddenly switched to spewing hate-speech and harmful commentary.
Military Involvement

xAI and the Department of Defense have recently signed a $200 million dollar contract earlier this month to use the artificial intelligence model Grok 4, “to accelerate use cases in healthcare, fundamental science, and national security.” Despite this claim, some worry about the reliability of the involvement of Grok in the government for reasons like its recent controversies on X, privacy and security concerns, and the risk of potentially false or misleading information produced by the AI. California U.S. Representative Laura Freidman is one of many politicians who have openly questioned the involvement of the AI in the federal government. Laura, in addition to 10 other congress members, wrote, “[Grok] poses a serious and unacceptable risk to national security and American constitutional values,” to Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, in order to express concerns about the AI and its new-found role in the government.
Clearing Things Up
All in all, Grok’s controversy has caused an uproar and has made many people skeptical about the AI’s ability to perform correctly, with countless concerns and questions being asked regarding the bot and its future. Either way, the developers claim to continue to update the AI and improve it for future use. Despite the recent controversies, the company xAI is going to continue plans with using the bot for the benefit of the U.S government.
